Janice Miles - Birthkeeper/Certified Doula and Educator
As the proud mother of 6 children, a significant part of my life has revolved around birthing, babies and breastfeeding. My children are my biggest joy and achievement. I have been so fortunate to be able to watch my kids grow and develop into the amazing human beings they are today. Every stage in their lives have brought joys as well as struggles but I have never stopped growing, learning and loving on every step of the way. I am pleased to share my knowledge to help other families in Victoria.
I was born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan but have lived most of my life either in the Greater Victoria Area or on Salt Spring Island. My six children range from age 19 to 39, and I am a grandma to six amazing grandbabies. My children grew up in a household of faith, love and respect( I always welcome it when my clients choose to share their faith with me). In order to spend as much time as possible with my children, I operated a home daycare and then homeschooled each one until they entered high school. Everything that I do in my life is for my children, I have loved every adventure of motherhood that has come my way and truly believe that my children are my best advertising as a doula. They taught me well!
During each of my pregnancies, I read “Spiritual Midwifery” by Ina May Gaskin and was inspired by the stories, experiences and empowering advice of mothers, midwives and alternative birth specialists. I became a La Leche League Leader, where I was able to promote the benefits and beauty of breastfeeding through meetings and one-on-one consultations with new mothers.
While raising my kids, I knew I wanted to be the best mother I could so I devoured books on birthing, babies, breastfeeding, mothering and raising children. Through my studies and over three decades of personal experience, I knew that supporting families is both my path and my passion. As a birthkeeper/doula, I love being able to comfort, guide and nurture new parents on the most beautiful journey of their lives and feel truly blessed that I am able to make a positive difference in their lives.
