What is a postpartum doula?
As a postpartum doula, I enable the new mother to recover from pregnancy and birth and facilitate the transition to parenthood for both parents by supplying reliable and factual information, reassurance, and hands-on support with children and household organization.
My goal is to nurture the whole family. As Barbara Katz Rothman, PhD says, "Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers - strong competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength."
A visit is a minimum of two hours, but the length and frequency of visits are up to you! Some families prefer a 4-hour booking per week, while others prefer more frequent 2-hour sessions.
$35/Hour for overnight
Baby didn't like the swing or car seat and was unable to fall asleep on his own making it a long and tiring day of holding, walking, bouncing and rocking while my husband was at work. Janice helped with baby care so I could shower or go to the bathroom - things I had taken for granted! Janice was very knowledgeable and it was great to have her support during a very challenging part of being a new parent.

How a postpartum doula can support your family:
Caring for mother, baby or siblings
Preparing meals or snacks, such as baked goods, fruit and veggie plates, cheese and crackers etc.
Light housework, such as dishes, sweeping, laundry, organizing or toy tidy
Assisting with breastfeeding or setting up a nursing corner
Playing with baby and/or siblings
Each family is unique and requires different types of support. We discuss your overall need and your goals for each visit. My intention is to provide as much support as possible.
